We are working diligently to document and preserve the history of the Banyamulenge people. Through dedicated research, community collaboration, and the collection of oral and written accounts, we aim to safeguard the rich heritage and historical journey of the Banyamulenge for current and future generations. This effort is not only about protecting the past, but also about empowering our community with a deeper understanding of its roots and identity.
We are deeply committed to developing and promoting the Kinyamulenge language. By creating grammar guides, documents, books, and children's literature, we are laying the foundation for a stronger linguistic identity. These efforts help preserve and standardize Kinyamulenge, ensuring it is taught, spoken, and passed down with pride across generations. By investing in our language, we are investing in the soul of our community.

We are committed to preserving the rich culture of the Banyamulenge people. Through traditional music, dance, storytelling, clothing, and community events, we celebrate and protect the unique cultural identity that defines us. By honoring our customs and sharing them with the next generation, we strengthen our sense of belonging and pride in who we are.
Since 2000, 4 in 5 Banyamulenge children have grown up outside their homeland. Many are growing up disconnected from their roots, language, culture, and the legacy of their ancestors. We exist to help them reconnect—reviving identity, pride, and belonging.
We do this by:
Reconnecting children and youth with their Banyamulenge roots and ancestry
Preserving and teaching Kinyamulenge language and grammar through children’s books and language competitions
Sharing the history and heritage of the Banyamulenge people through research and investigative reports
Reviving traditional culture, values, and customs by collaborating with other Banyamulenge organizations to organize cultural festivals
Building spaces—physical and digital—for learning, storytelling, and cultural transmission, especially in refugee camps and diaspora communities
Why Kinyamulenge Grammar Matters
For generations, Kinyamulenge has been a spoken language with no formal grammar or standardized writing system. This made it difficult to teach, preserve, or use in education and official documentation. As more Banyamulenge children grow up in diaspora or refugee camps, the risk of losing the language becomes greater. We recognized the urgent need to put a grammar in place—not only to preserve the language, but to empower future generations to read, write, and speak Kinyamulenge with confidence. A formal grammar allows us to create books, develop school materials, and ensure that Kinyamulenge takes its rightful place among the written languages of the world.
